Certified Aging-in-Place

Steve Christie is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS).

This education program teaches the strategies and techniques for designing and building aesthetically enriching, barrier-free living environments. The CAPS program goes beyond design to address the codes and standards, common remodeling expenditures and projects, product ideas and resources needed to provide comprehensive and practical aging in place solutions.

Teens who lost their legs getting home makeover

BERTHOUD - The homes of the two teenagers who lost their legs in a car crash last month are getting a free makeover.

Volunteers, including Steve Christie, are remodeling the homes to make them more comfortable for Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros.

The volunteers with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry started work on Carron's house on Friday and will replace the tub with a shower, widen the doors and put a ramp in the garage.

They plan to work on both houses Saturday.

Carron is already out of the hospital while Landeros is expected to be released soon.

The two Berthoud High School students lost both their legs from the knees down in a crash on January 15.

Police say the two were in the back of Carron's SUV on County Road 17 in Larimer County getting tools to fix a flat tire when another SUV hit them. The SUV was driven by another Berthoud student.

This remodeling job is just one of many things the community has done to rally around the young men.
